A Blast From the Past

Ever notice haw there are some things that can take you back to a time and place almost like magic, a sound, a smell, a car? For me: the sound – a train, the smell – wild grapes on a hot, dry August day, the car – a 1950 Ford Custom convertible.

I found this die-cast 1950 Ford convertible in the store today. I don’t collect these things but this made me smile. It an exact replica of my first car except mine was green and did not have a continental kit on the back. It had a flat head V8 and a manual top. I bought it for $50.00 from a friend who went in the Navy.  I drove it the entire summer and then winter of 1964. I froze my ass off in the winter  because I had no idea what a thermostat was. I put a new one in in March (cost me all of fifty cents) and had heat for the summer. Damn I had some good times in that car. I’d get one again but a quick scan on the internet shows they start around $20,000 these days.  Ah well, the memories are enough.
